MY ROOTS

Having been born in Venice, surrounded by water, I have always been fascinated by the way water can forge your personality.

I studied the works and lives of the most diverse authors, but when I encountered artists from the Caribbean islands, I felt a strong bond with them.

Indeed, delving into their works, I was enthralled by the recurrent presence of the figure of the mermaid — neither woman nor fish, always searching for a place to call home, always searching for her true roots.

Upon finally returning to Venice, I realised that perhaps I too was a creature from the water for, despite my many voyages, I always felt drawn back to the lagoon.

With the story of my mother’s birth, on a gondola, in the middle of the Venice lagoon, baptised with its water, I finally found my real roots.
